Concert Review

Ozzy Osbourne at HOB Sunset

After more than four decades of performing, Ozzy Osbourne is still out there pleasing his legion of fans.  In his official “album release” show for his new record Scream, Ozzy looked as polished as a veteran performer, and as spry as a young rocker.

For the duration of his 1 hour set, Ozzy had the crowd in a frenzy.  “Bark at the Moon” started the set and led the way for Ozzy’s newest single “Let Me Hear You Scream. ”  Ozzy’s backing band was one of the most meticulous and talented I’ve ever heard, and it was evident as they cruised through Ozzy megahits like “Mr. Crowley” and “Suicide Solution.”  Ozzy has always liked to drench the crowd, and Sunday night was no exception.  Like a sniper he would size up the first five or six rows of people and without warning soak them with huge buckets of water.  Sneak attacks came courtesy of Evian.  Between songs Ozzy would grab a drink from a fresh 1 liter bottle, and without capping it would launch it into the unsuspecting crowd.

Ozzy continued his frenetic pace with his 1986 hit “Shot in the Dark,” but it was his Black Sabbath classics “Iron Man” and “Paranoid” finishing the show that really satisfied the sold out crowd.

Ozzy is a universal talent.  There were old rockers a plenty, but I saw three young children on their parents shoulders singing every word to “Crazy Train.”  As a consummate showman it was a marvel to watch Ozzy strut his stuff. I encourage you to check out his new record Scream when it hits stores June 22nd, and check out Ozzfest this summer if it visits a city near you!

Your Damn Right Mario. I’m from Houston. We don’t hardly ever get jack shit for metal concerts anymore. (Ever Really) I try to make any that come through but we are in the 4th largest city and all get the middle finger up our ass when it comes to metal. The radio stations hardly ever play the heavier side of anything. Even in the time of 101 there was too much top 40 B.S. They played more metal than most, save Z-Rock, which after 2 tries never was able to root down in Houston. Most the stations only play good songs when the bands are getting close to tour their because they suddenly feel the need to be “Official Sponsors.” Bull Shit, we just seem to be a big ole cowboy town to the rest of the world, and that may be true, but this cowboy wants to hear some God Damn Metal!
