I met Bing Ji Ling in San Francisco over five years ago. I think we were parked in front of a Bloc Party show and he rolled up wearing a full suit with embroidered ice cream cones on it. I didn’t believe him when he told me about his band and that Bing Ji Ling meant ‘ice cream’ in Chinese.
I kept in touch with him and when he brought his band down to LA I brought up some ice cream to the Knitting Factory to rock out and do some slinging.
I just got word he’s around Southern California this week and has a show at the Silverlake Lounge TONIGHT, and in Costa Mesa at Mesa on Tuesday. He also has some DJ sets around town, you can check out his events here.
He’s touring all over the world to promote his new album, Shadow to Shine which came out last month. It’s a perfect soulful jam record for Spring. You can listen to some tracks here and purchase the album on iTunes or at one of his shows. The last time I saw Bing he had an all-star band and I have a feeling some of those players will be returning since he mentioned he’ll have a ‘full band’ for the next two nights. Put on those dancing shoes and work out some of that Easter dinner
