Drove out of San Fran after the Morningwood show and slept in the the truck somewhere next to cows along the 505. Woke up to it being surprising hot for 8 in the morning. The next 8 hours were a test for Bessy. The Temp was over 100 degrees ALL day and I was afraid the last bit of ice cream I had double coolered wasn’t going to make it to Ashland, Oregon. After barely making it over Black Butte Pass, I pulled over to a rest stop along the Klamath River. I was going to let the truck cool a bit then add some coolant before climbing over the highest pass on all of I-5.
My first instinct was to keep the freezer and cooler closed so that it would stay cold enough to make it the rest of the way. But after a nice old lady and a few of the rest stop workers asked me I easily gave in and pulled out multiple boxes of 50/50 bars. I myself had 2 50/50’s and a Coconut Bar in less than an hour. It was still over a hundred and as you can see by the photo’s, the ice cream was a welcome treat for everyone who stopped by. After just over an hour I made the last jaunt and rolled into Ashland and got the freezer plugged in. Ran into a couple kids I sold ice cream to last year, gave them some free cream and a movie, and told them about the big Ice Cream Social that will be taking place on Saturday the 13th. Then it was off to Wiley’s.
