On Saturday I got an email from Dave at Blk/Mrkt Gallery telling me I should stop by the gallery in Culver City that night. He said, “It’s Plushtastrophe…” I will say it did spark my interest. The first thought that went through my head was the picture under the tray of Sonic Youth’s Dirty album. After a bit of research I found out it was a touring exhibition of the art of plush. Cool enough for me.
Rolled up in Bessie just before 7 and to my amazement, found a parking spot right out front. That’s always a good sign. Since the show wasn’t gonna be going full force for a couple hours I was able to chill a bit and flag down people as then came and went and offer them some free cream. Rule of thumb: People who go to art shows are cool, especially parents who bring their kids. Headed in and took a quick peek around before returning to the truck and trying an oreo bar for the first time.
The art/plush show was much cooler than I expected. Actually I had no idea what to expect. Over sixty artists from around the world showcase hand made one-of-a-kind creations. Each soft sculpture has its own form, personality, and design. You should check out www.blkmrktgallery.com to find out more. The show runs til October 8th and as you can see by the pics, it’s worth checking out.
