The Wooten Center in Los Angeles is one of my favorite places to give away free ice cream. I found out about it last Xmas while reading in the newspaper that a local concert was being put on to help the center. The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center is a neighborhood approach to the revitalization and empowerment of a community in crisis. They provide a safe, nurturing environment committed to good citizenship and academic excellence. Every day, after school, kids come in and get help with homework, play, and occasionally get FREE ice cream.
It was great to see a lot of the same faces from before. Last time I came by I didn’t have any limits on how much ice cream I’d let kids eat. Then Armani ate at least 8 in about an hour and after that I decided limits were necessary. On Tuesday I kinda had a dilema because I didn’t want to over stuff the kids again but I kinda needed to get rid of all the ice cream on the truck because I was heading to The 88 show that night and also cuz I had the big rally the next day and knew I’d be picking up a bunch more. So much for limits. Armani didn’t match his feat but he did take over as Ice Cream Man for about a half hour as Cliff and I talked about where this whole idea was heading. Cliff was my biggest supporter for my Houston trip and I’m always looking for feedback from people who got my back.
It was about closing time and I needed some BBQ, so off I headed up Western hopin to find some goodness along the way.
