In the voice of Jonesy (Steve Jones of indie 103) say, “Now these girls are just lovely ain’t they!” To which I then say, “Yeah!” Because they are and they know how to hold it down. And if my memory serves me, they indeed rocked the closer “june gloom” with conviction. No encore. They were having fun and smiling throughout. Perhaps the opener seemed a bit more like a recital than a rock n roll! show in that mom and dad were most likely in attendance (seated in the balcony) and this being the largest show to date. She did say, “I’m sweating, and I don’t sweat!” at one point. So a little warming up to the big room! But Grand Dad Jonesy would be proud! They rocked it good and proper. My thinking is this: “What will these girls sound like with a few more nicks in those guitars?”

I’m looking forward to seeing more from The Like.

Also of note, an explosive set from Mellowdrone. Check out their site.

And lastly, Simon Dawes who closed their set with an inspired take on “burning down the house”. Most delightful to a kid that was watching MTV in 1984.
