I always seem to forget how much I like the punk shows until I find myself at another one. This was no exception. I was interested in seeing how this night would turn out, as I hadn’t been to a punk show at the Troubadour before. What an amazing night it would be!

I showed up a bit late to hear openers The Ignorant kickin’ it out proper. The mini pit action goin’ on marked the appreciation from the fans that showed up early to hear one that they knew. Now remember I don’t really follow punk, but they were rockin’ it. Next in line from San Francisco was Dead to Me. Now while the crowd defiantly mellowed out for these guys, they put in an equally tight performance. Maybe to tight, in that the songs had that polish of big production all over them, but hey they were rockin’ it. Maybe that’s why they got the silent treatment from the crowd (nothing worse than a quite punk).

In between songs the singer with the New Haven t-shirt on was cappin’ on the dudes with the Mohawks. During the songs the dudes with the Mohawks were talking to their friends. This was a great set.

Next up, Clit 45 out of Long Beach got the kids up and rippin’ again. One nearly hop-frogged me on to the stage as the set began. I ducked to the side so they could have their fun, no sense in the geezer with the camera getting in the way. This is when the kids really came alive; jumping on stage, diving back into the crowd, the pit picked back up and Clit 45 kept them going all the way through. The contrast in the crowds’ reaction to the two bands was brilliant. Just goes to show what the hometown boys can do!

With Clit 45 out of the way, The Briefs brought it out and reminded me what this night was about. This was a punk show, and while all the openers had their sh^t down it was the Briefs that brought all that and experience on this night. Oh, and the f^ckin’ cool sunglasses as well. Yeah, as the set moved on the sold-out house kept rockin’ and everyone was lovin’, as the mini pit kept rollin’. After about 35-40 minutes The Briefs left the stage for a quick break, then returned a few minutes later with “Getting Hit On” and about 30-40 minutes of more songs. Now say what you will about me not knowin’ all the songs, but get your ass to a punk show and see how much fun they’re havin’ and maybe you will too. On second thought, maybe you should stay home or try your luck at the bank.

Peace.
