Dead Meadow at the Troubadour with Interview

To be completely honest, the first time I heard Dead Meadow I was trying my hardest to ignore them. They were on one of those great festival bills with a lot of good bands, and I was pretty sure that I had already seen them open for somebody else and was not impressed.

As I stood in the back of the venue drinking some water and people watching that day, though, I was slowly being drawn in by their sound. It was then that I realized that I hadn’t seen this band before.

Minutes later I was near the front of the stage taking it all in.

I was knocked out by the rhythm section of Steve Kille (bass) and Stephen McCarty (drums), but at one point Jason Simon broke into one of his guitar solos and I almost lost my sh^t!

This band wasn’t some crappy band to ignore, so ignore I haven’t ever since. Last Friday, the Ice Cream Crew (Home Branch) went en masse to take in their sold out show at the
Troubadour with The Silversun Pickups, and to celebrate Bill’s birthday. About a week before they came out West for their mini-tour, though, I had a chance to speak with Steve Kille about the band and their impending plans to record the follow-up to last year’s Feathers.
