On Monday, Matthias headed down to Long Beach to take some pics for his school project. We briefly talked about where to shoot, but with less than an hour of daylight, I figured it would be best to just load up some cream and cruise around town giving it away.
First we hit the street I grew up on. There I ran into some hooligans (ha) who had snagged some ice cream man stickers somewhere before. I loaded them up with some treats then we passed by the house I grew up in. It brought back memories of running out as a kid and buying Bubble Plays and Frozen Toes. I was trying to think of what friends might be home. The best chance was going to be Couchland, the place I lived for a while after returning from the Appalachian Trail. Nick wasn’t home but we gifted Natalie with some goods for the whole Temple crew then headed down Fifth.
After a bit of coaxing, I convinced a family to partake in the treats. I now have a new line for when everyone asks about why I’m giving away ice cream, “it’s a school project.” Somehow that instantly brings credibility to whatever you’re doing. No one ever questions it. Keep that in mind next time you’re doing something a bit wacky.
We were heading towards Chris’ house when we spied a group of guys hanging out by a moving truck. They obviously needed some ice cream so I pulled over before asking. After diggin’ up some UFO’s and yappin’ about getting some new vinyl graphics on Bessie, I told Branden he could hop in to drive around the block. Lucky for him he even got to give away ice cream to a very lovely young lady.
It was getting dark so we headed over to Hole Mole and called it a night. I forgot how much fun it was to drive around doing the traditional ice cream truck route. Hopefully Matthias got the shots he needed.
