Well it was another Sunday at the lovely dark room of Alex’s bar. However this wasn’t just any other day. It is my birthday party (my b-day was the next day really) and I asked Alex (proprietor) if I could have the day for bands to play and have “BBQ Jeff” man the grill for the day – Well I got all I asked for! We all got there and ate some really good food and had far too many drinks! Now onto the music

First it was Vavak, Ok I love this guy. Now I have never heard anyone with a voice as good as his playing a wonderful collage of folk, country and soul with a tinge of pop. Once you hear his voice at a club, you’ll stop; everyone stops and listens as they did this day. As he goes trough his set you start to realize the room is a perfect setting for the music. He started out with an untitled new song. He blazed on to some of my favorites like “Parasol” and “Far Form Here”. He Ended his set with “Circles”, a song I haven’t heard him play in years. One of the best sets I have heard him play in a long time. I can’t wait for the new recording to come out later this year, but everyone should get his last EP Parasol.

Up next came Play Pretty for Baby. This was a 360 slam dunk from what Vavak did. They play much in the style of The Nation of Ulysses and Refused. It felt like a hell storm had hit the stage on the first note. These guys attack the stage the way their music calls for. Now I’ve had their EP for sometime and it is still is in heavy rotation. The energy they have is unbelievable and I was in awe after they played!

Now these are two performers I think the world should hear once and I know you will fall in love with them as much as I have. So go to there sites and find there EP’s and buy them now.
