Crusin Brookly and Slinging Some Cream

I’ve been in Brooklyn for over week now and it’s been amazing. Here are a handful of pics from some cream slinging and fun stuff we’ve been getting into. Last week we headed over to catch Matt Pond PA and TV on the Radio at Prospect Park for their Celebrate Brooklyn set. I thought I was near the bandshell when I saw a bunch of production trailers by the park. I worked my way into a perfect parking spot then just started doing my thing. I didn’t think much about it til people started asking me if I’d come back tomorrow. Hmmm, there wasn’t a show tomorrow….. Soon enough I found out we were on a movie set for some new Jodie Foster flick. I was tempted to head on over to the park but everyone was loving the treats and I had to sling everything because I didn’t have enough dry ice to keep it through the night. They were encouraging us to actually drive onto the set so we figured, why the hell not. I swear I saw Jodie Foster in her trailer. I screamed “ICE CREAM” as loud as I could but for some reason she didn’t come out. The road to actually get into the park was blocked off but since we were already there, we decided to push forward to see what would happen. Eventually the Park Police caught us and kindly escorted us outta the park.

The Ice Cream Mafia (aka Mr. Softee) had cornered all the access points to where the concert was being held. Fred and Tessely and I drove around for a while to find somewhere to sling from. After a while we called it quits and parked almost a mile away and headed to the concert. Matt Pond PA was just finishing up his set as the wind swirled and a few drops of rain came down. The horn players from Antibalas Orchestra joined TVotR for a few tracks and the crowd of 5000+ all seemed to dig the set from the hometown favorites. From the side the sound wasn’t so great so I headed back by the soundboard for a bit. The set was about to end so I ran all the way back to the truck and got her fired up. Parking was still pretty nonexistent so I found a spot that wasn’t all that legal but also wasn’t blocking a fire hydrant.

Usually I take my time when I’m giving away ice cream but, since all the cream had to be given away, I started grabbing boxes and standing in front of the truck nearly forcing folks to take a popsicle. It worked. All the concert goers had disperesed and a couple guys, walking the opposite direction, took the final three. My job was done and I was on my back home.

Some of the other shots in here are from a show we went to at the Syrup Room in Brooklyn. Land of Talk, Tokyo Police Club and Ramesh from Voxtrot were playing. That was a great night. We weren’t able to stick around too long cuz Tyler had to work the next day.

Off to work on pics for tomorrow’s post….yippeeee!
