The first annual Hyperactive Music Festival held in Albuquerque, New Mexico provided an intimate interaction between musicians, fans and music industry profesionals. A good example of this was the demo listening session. All artists who submitted demos had them critiqued. Panelists included John Kurtzwig (producer for Creed), Steve Grub (WBKE programmer) and Nick Iverson (Two Fish Studios). Cheryl Roberts of Sony also was there to give each demo her individual attention. Musicians were also given the opportunity to meet with industry pros like Tinderbox Music’s Jon Delange. Two things really impressed me about this showcase/festival: The quality of the artists and the sense of community among the artists, especially the singer songwriters. They provided support for each other and were often seen at each others gigs. Seen hanging out together at the GoGirls showcase were Chris Volpe, Melody Moore, DannyWooten and the Highway Girls. The previous night the versatile Moore had sat in with funky hip-hop act Yo Flaco.
Among the other highlights of the festival were Knives in the Attic, The Vanity, Greyscale, Fletch, Adam Lopez, Yo Flaco, Sarah Bettens, Matt Jones, Kate and Kacy Coppola, Black Tie Dynasty, Fielding, Jodelle, Lylah, Ants Have Voices, Ralph Jones Band and Malcolm Palmer.
