Last week we had a request to sling some cream at the world premier of new Warner Brothers film, Beerfest. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with ice cream and booze….wait….let me retract that. I’ve had quite a bit of experience giving ice cream to people who would classify as a bit tipsy, but, I’ve never done so at an event where everyone was encouraged to get sloshed. It’s a movie called Beerfest and there was more free beer then you can imagine.
The premier at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard featured beer, beer, beer, and more beer. When guests arrived they were greeted by dozens of kegs and a special Beerfest bottled brew. Due to lack of a liquor license beer wasn’t allowed inside so everyone put back a few beforehand which meant there was a constant flow of people having to take a stroll or two during the screening.
The after party was in the parking lot directly next door to the theater and we had our push cart setup in the far corner. They put down a ton of sawdust and brought in all the necessary props to make it look like a Hollywood version of Octoberfest. There were numerous beer sponsors with tables set up promoting their product and a handful of games like beer pong, bat spin dunk tank, flip the cup, and a bunch more I didn’t get around to playing. I did partake in some peanuts, one large Grolsch, some Hooters wings, and a Johnsonville Brat though. They were all great.
Once everyone came out I thought they’d all go for the beer and grub. I was surprised to find that ice cream was a hot commodity. As usual the UFO’s were the first to go. Strawberry Shortcakes weren’t too long after that. The cart that Mel-o-Dee ice cream let me borrow held around 400 pieces and I made sure to stock up on sandwiches and drumsticks for the potential drunkards. Dave and Sarah were helping out a bit around the cart and Dave took the camera to take most of these shots. Since I was driving he was the designated drinker for the night. So that might explain any blurry pictures you see here.
Sometime around midnight it all wound down and we were left with a handful of popsicles and coconut fruit bars. We rolled out the cart and loaded it into the back of the van then had some very interesting discussions on the way home about Dave and Sarah’s quest to drink at least one of every different beer they had there. I was proud of them. I just wonder how Sarah faired at work the next morn.
