Pitchfork Festival was definitely a highlight for the summer tour. It made me realize that there really isn’t any use for me to curate or put on a festival. With the quality of talent they had stretched over two days, there was never a dull or repetitive moment. I think they could have landed just about any band they wanted. Really, who would say NO to playing a festival put on by the most visited music site online?
The lineup was a wish list for those who were looking for something new. There was a large cache of Indie Rock but every other genre was represented as well. Brazilian legends Os Mutantes closed things out on Sunday night and they lived up to whatever hype might have built up over their previous years of absence. I got to hear quite a bit of the music while slinging cream backstage but only got to catch a handful of shows from the other side. The one’s that I missed but hope will be coming around my neck of the woods soon are Liars, Man Man, and CSS. Bands that had me getting down were The National, Mission of Burma, Os Mutantes and some a short stint in the tent with Flosstradamus.
I’m working on the full review now. Hoping it will be up sometime on Thursday. It kinda has to because we start slinging cream at Lollapalooza on Friday. Life is tough I tell ya. Actually, I am concerned that Bessie might have some troubles getting back to Ashland for the third Ice Cream Social. If she doesn’t overheat, everything will be fine. I’ll probably just end up driving the majority of the 2000 miles at night hoping not to run into any Bambi’s along the way.
Thanks to everyone at Pitchfork who put on such a great festival and allowed us to give away 2500 free treats. Nice people I tell ya. Keep checking back for some new stuff, we’ve got one hell of a backlog goin’ on. If you have anything you’ll like to add to the extra-large review that’s on the way, let me know
