On Thursday October 25th, Autolux opened their set to a welcoming LA audience. Framed by three exploding lamps, the threesome pounded their way through many percussion-driven songs. Future Perfect, their 2004 only full-length studio album has, in a short amount of time, put them on a level that makes them feel like a veteran LA band. The trio, comprised of Eugene Goreshter (lead vocals, bass), Greg Edwards (guitar, vocals), and Carla Azar (drums, vocals) is exciting, with a tinge of an apathetic air that makes it more about the music than the showmanship. The main draw in many of their songs is Carla Azar’s drumming. Having a lead female drummer is very refreshing in a world where sappy guitar-playing frontmen dominate. Autolux is currently working on their second studio album with producer John Goodmanson. Hurry, Autolux! We’re ready!

The real attraction of the evening were headliners Blonde Redhead, another trio of a different sort. This hardworking, straightforward group delivers. Kazu Makino’s vocals are otherworldly and Italian twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace provide drums, guitar and an assortment of electronic gadgets to the mix. Playing most every song from their most recent album 23 we were all more than pleased to finally hear these songs LIVE!! Come back Blonde Redhead!!
