Dean & Britta‘s show was a treat for current fans of the duo as well as those who
fondly remember both Dean Wareham’s Galaxie 500 and Luna (which featured
both Dean & Britta). Opening with Singer Sing, the first track off their current
Back Numbers album, the set reached into the back catalog to touch on a
number of favorites including Luna’s Tigerlily. Other highlights of their set
included You Turn My Head Around (sung passionately by Britta Phillips) and a
fantastic cover of Serge Gainsbourg’s Bonnie and Clyde.
At one point, when a fan yelled out a thank you for playing an old track, Dean
mentioned that his upcoming memoir Black Postcards contains the whole story
behind that particular song (along with many other stories and musings about his
years in indie rock).
Keren Ann closed the night with a relaxed set of folk-rock songs sung in both
English and French.
