After our holiday party on Tuesday night we had lots of hot cocoa supplies left over so we decided to head up to Eagle Rock on Friday for LA Record‘s party to do some slingin’. The lineup was right up our alley with Underground Railroad to Candyland, Blank Blue, and Entrance set to play at the Center for the Arts. Alex, Scott and Mike all hopped in the van and we met up with Stella, Crash, Brian, and Brian who all helped with making hot choco or taking pics or having a good time.
URTC took the stage first before the place really filled out but there were enough people there to soak up some sound and keep the echo-y-ness down a bit. They sounded great, even better than at our party. Even though this was an all-ages show, I was shocked to see most people just standing there. Come on kids! DANCE. I bopped around a bit and sang along and snapped a couple pics cuz Crash hadnt arrived yet.
In between sets we hung out in the back next to the booze table and made lots of hot cocoa. Sure we ended up consuming quite a bit but we also gave a ton away. You could get your picture taken with Santa and he was also giving out some great presents, courtesy of JAXART records and other local record labels who donated albums and more funness from InCase and some other companies. I got an old KORN shirt that Sean had worn on the F Yeah tour for a week straight yay for Santa!
Local LB band Blank Blue took the stage next. Id heard them on record some but never live cuz Id been on the road all summer. WOW what a wonderful surprise. Instead of the studio/electronic vibe on their debut, Western Water Music Vol. 2 they had a full live band that sounded more like a psychedelic wall-of-sound explosion meets Mazzy Star. So, so good. It also helped that the Center for the Arts is where they practice so they had the sound locked down. We could hear and see perfectly from our hot cocoa table in the back too so we didnt miss a thing.
Im not sure if Id seen Entrance before. Yes, theyre awesome and youd think, unforgettable but. We go to a ton of shows and prolly slung at at least a few they were playing at. Entrance brings the rock like few other bands can. Im sure there are a ton of bands out there that think they rock live but, lets be honest, therere only a few that make your jaw drop while nodding your head in approval. It was LOUD where we were in the back and I cant imagine what it must have been like up front. We kept slinging the whole set and they ended with one of those songs that made you think.theres no use for an encore after that, which was the case. You can catch Entrance with Indian Jewelry and The Growlers at the Troubadour on Jan 15th if youd like to get your socks rocked off.
Thanks to everyone for the help. Twas one of my favorite holiday parties and Im glad we made it out.
