While in the land of Powells Books, Voodoo Donuts and having the most Micro Brews per capita in the United States, (yes, I am talking about Portland, OR), I had to check out the local ice cream scene. While I was in the up-and-coming downtown area called the Pearl District, I came across Cool Moon Ice Cream.

Cool Moon makes all of their amazing flavors in-store and offers many espresso and other hot coffee drinks. All of their ice cream and sorbet are made with all-natural ingredients as well. They also offer chocolate-covered frozen bananas and ice cream cakes. With bright colors and a fun decor, everyone feels like a little kid when they walk through those doors.

Besides the usual stables, Cool Moon offers a variety of interesting ice cream flavors including Mexican Vanilla, Citrus Pistachio and Mesquite Honey. In the end I settled on a rich chocolate sundae. The hot fudge, hazelnuts and whipped cream go nicely with the Mexican Vanilla, which had a sweet and tangy cinnamon taste. My friend got the Mesquite Honey, which was also an amazing flavor. It wasnt as sweet as one might assume from the name, but it had the right balance of honey and cream. For those of us who dont like all of that sweet stuff, the Citrus Pistachio is right for you. With large chunks of pistachio nuts and a sour citrus ice cream base that will put a pucker to your lips.

Even though it was snowing while I was in Portland, I had to get my ice cream fix on and Cool Moon satisfied my every need.
