L.A. Record, which started as a weekly broadsheet in 2005, has been publishing as a monthly music magazine since March 2008. Since its first issue, with the Rolling Blackouts recreating the New York Dolls self-titled album, the tradition of bands recreating their favorite album covers has continued. However, L.A. Record is now known for more than kickass covers, gaining notoriety as the first publication to feature bands like Cold War Kids, Flying Lotus, No Age and Crystal Antlers on their covers. The periodical that continues to feature and interview up-and-coming L.A. bands has decided to drop some knowledge while at SXSW this year.

The publication will host a show that starts at 8PM at The Independent, located in 501 Studios, a few blocks from the Convention Center. The Independent is an artists collective within the historic buildings in downtown, a perfect place to see the eclectic group of musicians L.A. Record has brought to represent.

Come down to see the six-piece Castledoor get the night started with fast-paced, layered indie rock. Then chill out to the psychedelic, blissed-out beats of Long Beachs Blank Blue. The Henry Clay People will bring the night back with their characteristically gusty and riotous Americana rock, sure to encore their wild and widely noted performance from last year. Very Be Careful will get the dancing started with their North-and-South American fusion that brings the beats. Finally, to end the night (because it has to end sometime), is the unbeatable combination of Blu (http://www.myspace.com/herfavcolor), special guest, Exile, and the festival favorite, Busdriver with sharp, inventive rhymes whose flow and beats will keep your head bouncing even after the show is over.

So if youre in Austin next week, swing by The Independent on Thursday night, and see what L.A. has to offer! Whether you prefer indie rock, fusion dance or underground hip-hop, youre sure to find it in L.A. or at least in Austin on the 19th.

Lineup and times:
8PM Castledoor
9PM Blank Blue
10PM The Henry Clay People
11PM Very Be Careful
12AM Busdriver
1AM Blu

Since this is an official SXSW event, badges or wristbands are required. If you cant make the showcase, L.A. Record is presenting a free day party at Club 1808 on Saturday March 21st, 2-7PM. Line up includes: The Warlocks, Year Long Disaster, Annihilation Time, Night Horse, Tweak Bird and Black Math Horseman.
