Spoon is probably one of the most interesting bands around. On the surface they seem like your standard indie pop rock outfit, direct descendants of The Cars. After a few listens though, there are so many small details that fit perfectly in each song, making Britt Daniel one of the most intriguing songwriters around.
Having said that, I think “The Fitted Shirt” off of the incredible Girls Can Tell album is probably their most straightforward classic rock songs. It has a great, simple opening riff and a pretty standard progression. I think what I enjoy most about it though is that the song is literally about fitted shirts. Yeah, there’s the nostalgia stuff about wearing your Dad’s clothes, but really when it comes down to it, it’s about how they just don’t make shirts that fit right anymore. Perfect.
