The last few days I felt like I was part of the A-Team. I got a call over the weekend asking if we had an ice cream truck available Monday-Wednesday for something to do with Perez Hilton. Hmmm this could either be cool, like his party in Austin during SXSW, or this could be a li’l boring like a book signing. We did happen to be free and I was curious where this would lead so I offered up our services. After a few more calls back and forth I realized I was actually talking to the manager for international pop superstar Mika. If for some reason you dont know him check out this vid or this one. So the mission.as spelled out via www.perezhilton.com was that Mika was going to be doing a free show today (Wednesday) at a secret location and the only way to get tickets was to show up at a park in Beverly Hills and to find the ice cream truck where Mika and Perez might be giving away free treats.
It was all very mysterious and, as you can imagine, Mikas fans (part of them from the MFC. Mika Fan Club) were eating up the chance to have Mika AND Perez sling some cream to them and get a wristband to see an intimate show. I played along and got to the park early to secure a good parking spot and to help blow up balloons. I opened up the serving window right at 6:00PM and started dishing treats to those waiting. The line went all the way down the block, around the corner, then most of the way down another side of the block. A few minutes in someone tapped on the door and sure enough, it was the man of the hour, Mika. Not long after that Perez came crawling over the drivers seat and they posted up next to each other, sitting on a cooler and an old safe I found in the back of Newt. The commotion around the truck was crazy. Dozens of cameras appeared and people completely forgot about the free ice cream. All they wanted was a picture with Perez and Mika or an autograph or both. My job was surprisingly easy. Every once in a while Id dig through the cooler to find a treat but for the most part, everyone seemed to only want ice cream sandwiches, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Strawberry Shortcakes. I did my best to snap some pics but it was a li’l bit tough from the back and I didnt want to be that guy who couldnt stop taking pics.
For those lucky enough to wait the hour in line to get a wristband and ice cream from the two gents, theyll be treated to a free show at The Roxy at 8:00 on Wednesday. Mika just finished recording his new album and he wants to play some tracks off it for fans before returning to Europe. I wish I could tell you of a way to get into the show but all the tix are gone and theyre not selling any. I think Im gonna head up but havent decided if I wanted to sling cream or not. Well see
I love it when a plan comes together!
