There’s a fine line between covering a song and making it sound fresh and different and covering a song and making it sound like a novelty. Although I think Dolly Parton‘s version of Collective Soul’s “Shine” from her 2001 album Little Sparrow almost veers into novelty, the bluegrass mountain jam in the middle completely saves it. Of course Dolly’s incredible singing voice doesn’t hurt either.
