Im a huge fan of people that do weird stuff (probably why I have involved myself in all these Ice Cream Man shenanigans). I especially appreciate when someone does weird shit and does it REALLY well.
I first came across Chad VanGaalen when he opened for Band of Horses at Avalon. He sat behind a drum kit, guitar nested in his lap with a violin bow in his hand and a harmonica strapped around his neck. An indie-rock one-man band?! I thought to myself, this is gonna super suck, OR be super awesome. Fortunately it was the latter and in a big way. He launched into some moody spaz-pop song infused with LSD trip-poetry style lyrics. It was brilliant. One of my biggest regrets in life is not having more cash that night as Chad sat at his merch table after the show doodling on every album that was purchased.
Bare Feet on Wet Griptape, the track name alone starts you down this cold, wet journey and when the song kicks in, manyoure pulled all over the place. Ups and downs, lefts, rightswheeee!
