It’s kinda fun having to come up with something for the Song of the Day. I only have to do Tuesdays, which seems like it’d be easy but with a lot of traveling you end up throwing it together from places like your friends apartment in Brooklyn. I feel like I should have a song that’s dreary and about New York (cuz it’s drizzly here) but I’d rather be a bit spunky. So….. let’s see….
Actually, this song kinda fits for a rainy day. Most people have heard the story about Wilco and their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. A lot of the stuff actually went down in their film, I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. Without going into a bunch of detail, Wilco made a demo of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot that was more ‘rootsy’ than the final version and one of the songs on their is “Venus Stop the Train.” It’s just Jay Bennett and Jeff Tweedy together and it’s beautiful, one of my favortie Wilco songs. Sorry I don’t have the link to the demo album now, I’m sure it’s not too hard to find. If you can’t track it down, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
