Starting tomorrow, Y La Bamba goes on tour in support of their new album, produced by Chris Funk of the Decemberists.
Why should you care? Because, 1. The lead singer, Luz Elena is hot, and 2. They’re actually pretty good! Check out their song "Fasting in San Francisco" below.
From their press release:
"Y La Bamba’s lead singer, Luz Elena, is the 6 foot tall daughter of Mexican immigrants. Her lyrics are about her struggles with family, God and being bedridden for months with giardia and amebic dysentery (which she got during a trip to India). Her vocals sound like they are coming out of an old Victrola record player and the band performs a sort of freak folk that has highly influenced by the 1930’s mexican music that Elena listened to growing up. The band has quickly caught the attention of Portland music fans, including the Decemberists’ Chris Funk who offered to produce the album probona until the band finds a home for the release."
