You know your event is a success when people start planning their year around it. This is definitely the case with The DoLab’s Lucent L’Amour. Having outgrown a church and a cordoned off street, they have now invaded the Shrine Auditorium Expo Hall and surrounding parking lot, next to the campus of USC, in the heart of Los Angeles. The key to its success is its organic growth. Always finding an appropriate venue in which to host this “Visual Love Fest Extravaganza.” As always the Do Lab events seem like a “one-ups-manship” from their previous events. When you think it can’t get any better, it does.
Performances by Bassnectar, Stanton Warriors, and Yard Dogs Road Show, filling the air, the minds, and the eyes of the attendees. Lest I not forget the host performers Lucent Dossier, with their prophetic Playa revelations brought to stage. If anything you walk away with innate understanding of the possibilities that exist, tied into a communal consciousness driven by action and participation. You are as much a part of the performance as performers themselves, creating a symbiotic scenario in which you are not only the entertained but the entertainer as well.
This year we were able to get an ice cream cart into the venue, to sling frozen treats so graciously provided by Curty Wurty Pops. These Pops were most appropriate for this event, as sweaty participants moved out from the congested confines of the dance floor into arms of a dual-flavored popsicle. This year was interesting, because I did not get to shoot any of the performances. I was pretty much tied to the ice cream cart, which really hinders your mobility in crowded confines. So this year’s photos were done by the incredible photographers, Curious Josh and Pixie.
