For the past few years I’ve been trying to catch Think About Life, an incredible band from Montreal. To be more specific: Ever since I heard “Paul Cries” from their self-titled record, I’ve been wanting to dance my ass off at one of their shows.
Alas, the time has come. In celebration of this long awaited moment, the Ice Cream Crew is putting together a ten-minute dance party, featuring Think About Life, Austin’s own DJ Manny, and DJ Manny’s rickshaw bike, which houses a 1000-watt sound system.
The combination of this band, this DJ and the energy of SXSW is perfect. Think About Life brings a frenetic, beat-bumping, dance mob wherever they go – which has included world tours opening for Wolf Parade, Franz Ferdinand, and Ratatat. In addition to founding member Graham Van Pelt, the band’s current tour lineup features Martin Ceasar on vocals, Greg Napier on guitar and the new addition of Caila Thompson-Hannant.
The plan for our ten-minute dance party goes something like this: DJ Manny and Bessie (our original 1969 ice cream truck) will roll out Thursday March 18th at 4:30 p.m. to E. 5th St. and San Marcos, where the MWTX! party will be going down on Friday and Saturday. DJ Manny will be bumping tunes from his bike to warm up, then we’ll drop some amps and a drum kit for Think About Life to rock out a few songs. A few more songs from the turntable will follow before we all split.
In addition to the groove there will be lots of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and local Good Pops from the truck. What more could you want?
