Avi Buffalo In-Store at Fingerprints

Early this week Avi Buffalo stopped by Fingerprints in Long Beach for a show to kick off the release of their new self-titled album on Sub Pop. It’s been a long time coming for the band and for all their local fans but the time had finally come and you could pick up the album as well as a bonus CD of B-sides and a poster.

I was happy, and a little bit surprised, at how many people showed up: the place was packed. Maybe cuz it was free, all-ages, and there was definitely a friends-and-family vibe going on, I even got to say hi to Avi’s mom! Everyone likes to point out that the average age of the band members is probably 19 which got me thinking that the wait to get the album out might not be such a bad thing because it’s given them more time to practice and play to get ready for some summer festivals as well as some opening dates for Modest Mouse, Blitzen Trapper, and Japandroids.

With only one album out their sets are pretty similar, now they’re just a bit tighter. Avi and Rebecca’s voices sound better than ever together. They even had a friend join in on sax which was cool. The set included “Truth Sets In”, “Jessica”, “What’s In It For?” and the song they like to always finish on, “Remember Last Time,” which slowly builds until Avi shreds on the guitar, which hopefully he’ll do more when they get around to writing a new batch of songs. Check out their new album, you can also see them on a Road Trippin’ episode from last summer below.
