Bricks and Mortar Media (BAMM.tv) threw a blow-out launch party at their headquarters at 43 Norfolk in San Francisco on Thursday night. Trevor Garrod of Tea Leaf Green opened up with Lael Neale for a folksy, Americana inspired set. They were followed by an energetic performance by Infantree. Alex Vojdani, Jordan Avesar, Matt Kronish, and Donald Fisher lit up the stage with their reticent, thoughtful and melodic brand of indie rock.
There was no shortage of inspiring atmosphere at BAMM headquarters Thursday night. Their space is a roomy, modern building with a stage, room for an audience, kitchen, mezzanine, green-screen area and gallery. The space is a fully functional, state-of-the-art recording study capable of streaming live video feed on to the BAMM.tv website. The featured studio art was by the Menagerie Collective. “Frames In Motion” is an “exhibit that examines the relationship between traditional art and new media by integrating elements of painting and mixed media into film and digital arts”. An edgy collection, “Frames in Motion” was well suited to the evening’s atmosphere.
In between stage sets, VJ Brock Alter and DJ Gabe Macias kept the crowd pumped with danceable sets and psychedelic green-screen visuals. The crowd mingled contentedly, toting burritos from the catering truck parked outside, and sipping on free beer and wine.
Justin.tv caught all the action, live-streaming the entire night. 175,000 viewers tuned in over the course of the evening. BAMM’s launch reached well beyond the local San Francisco scene.
Camino and I kept ourselves busy dishing icy treats to the music and art enthusiasts. We received a warm welcome from the crowd, especially as the night wore on and the cameras and lighting heated the place up. We were really happy to be supporting not only our own local music scene, but also our friends and neighbors. We met Chris Hansen, owner of BAMM, and his wife Amy at a neighborhood boosters club meeting. We were psyched to find like-minded people living around the corner and jumped at the chance to support their efforts to create a relaxed, artist-friendly recording space for upcoming acts.
“There is a burgeoning music scene growing in San Francisco. We’re really trying to give new artists exposure that isn’t available to them via conventional media channels.” Chris explained. “Our focus is on new artists but we also work with forward-thinking labels.”
