Live 105 put on a fantastic preshow party at The Mezzanine in San Francisco last weekend. It was all indie, all night.
Things kicked off with The Soft Pack. Their fuzzy grungy surf rock was solid and tight. They won over quite a few new fans, and sold a few CD’s from the front of the stage right after their set.
The Golden Filter took the stage next. They were completely backlit, with no light whatsoever coming from the front. A tough shoot indeed. One saving grace is that The Mezzanine has a lax photo policy and flash is not a problem. This makes many photographers happy, but I’m much happier to use available light and dislike the flat look of on-board flash. Catch flash is rare serendipitous happenstance, but I think I caught one or two during their set.
Hands down the highlight of the night was Matt and Kim. They rocked it, hit it, beat it, all with huge smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. They stuck around after the show to kick off the dance party. They took the time to chat with every fan who wanted to meet them, hug them, and be photographed with them. I stuck around watching and was inspired by their enthusiastic connection with their passionate fans.
