Envy to Tour US

Envy is touring the US!!!  I think the last time I was excited that a band was touring was when I found out The Gories were playing their first shows in 15 years, and I had to travel to Memphis for those.

I first caught Envy at the All Tomorrows Parties that Explosions in the Sky curated in England in 2008.  Jeremiah and I were having a great time watching Animal Collective and after that Battles took the stage.  We had already seen them the day before and I pulled out my schedule to see if anyone else was playing.  Envy was the very last band of the festival and they were getting started.  All I knew about them was that they were a Japanese noise rock band which was enough to make J and I rush to get there.

The easiest way to explain them is imagine that Mogwai meets Explosions in the Sky with Japanese screamo vocals over most of the tracks.  My neck hurts just thinking about all the headbanging I did during their set and how much more I’ll be doing in a few weeks at The Troubadour in LA.  I also just noticed they’ll be at Chain Reaction and The Casbah too, I might have to double up.

Their new record , Recitation on Temporary Residence just came out and the double LP is only  $12.  I’m digging it so much I hope they play most of the tracks from it.   I can’t get enough of it.  It’s not for everyone but if you should really at least give some of their songs a spin on myspace, even if you’re just curious.  This could be the only time you get to see these guys and they’re playing ALL over the country.
