If you’re a fan of any of the good garage rock that’s come out the last two decades you’ll love The Parting Gifts. Greg Cartwright, aka Greg Oblivian, from the Oblivians leads The Parting Gifts with Lindsay “CoCo” Hames (The Ettes) and Patrick Keeler (Greenhornes/Raconteurs). I am an Oblivians fan but I think I’m more of a fan of Greg’s other main band, The Reigning Sound. They’ve been around for a decade and have put out a bunch of records on In the Record and Sympathy for the Record Industry. TaggyLee got me into them by giving me a Reigning Sound 7” from her dad’s garage a long while back and I’m still hoping to catch them live one day. Too Much Guitar from 2004 is my favorite garage rock album of the last decade and I recommend you pick up a copy of that when you’re ordering the new Parting Gifts record at your local record store or via In the Red records (sh*t… you should grab Andre Williams’ Silky while you’re at it too!). Well… the album doesn’t actually come out til November 9th so you’re gonna have to enjoy “Keep on Walking” for now
You should also rock “If You Can’t Give Me Everything” from The Reigning Sound, one of my favorites
