If you’ve ever wondered why I’m always giving shout out’s Alabama and the Tide it’s cuz my dad and grandparents are from there and, how can you NOT like Alabama. Most people don’t know much about the state and haven’t spent much time there but it was a great place to spend some of our summers as a kid, quite different than growing up in Long Beach, California.
I always keep an eye out for artists that are from Alabama and have known about Phosphorescent for some time, seeing him at CMJ a couple years ago and enjoying his albums. On his latest release, Here’s to Taking it Easy he kicks things off with “It’s Hard to Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)” and it makes me smile each time I hear it. It seemed like a perfect candidate for Song of the Day (or…. Song of the Month at the rate we post these). AA Bondy and his former band Verbena, are from Bama. I think Patterson Hood from Drive-By Truckers used to live in Bama too. I know there’s some other recent folks too, drop in any below I should check out
