I like artists that make music that creeps up on you. Don’t get me wrong, I also love a catchy pop song that you know you like only half way through the first listen but there’s something to be said about a band or artist that gets you listening to their album over and over, even if you’re sure how much you like it. This happened with Plants and Animals last album and it’s also happened with Cass McCombs. Apparently his last album interested me enough that when I saw he had a new single out from his forthcoming record, Wit’s End, I wanted to check it out.
“County Line” is a slow-roller of a song that has just enough soul and hook that it’ll sit in the back of your mind or just make you want to listen to it a few times because it makes you feel at peace with your day. While you’re waiting for the new album you should check out Catacombs. There’s all kinds of good songs on there and it’ll help get you in the mood for his new album when it come out on Domino Records in just over a month.
