This is a fun and weird story. We’re all fans here of Hawthorne (and kinda Long Beach) based band Dios. We even had Joel & Kevin play our Xmas party in ’09. Now Joel (apparently dropping the Morales for Jerome for his solo work) is putting out an album of his own.
The appropriately titled When Beck Was Cool, out April 19, is an homage to early version Beck. An album of covers, it includes songs from Mellow Gold, One Foot in the Grave, and Stereopathetic Soulmanure—as well as his early cassette releases and non-LP singles.
Check out the first single, “Cyanide Breath Mint” here. It’s a great cover that evokes Beck while still sounding like a Dios song.
