This is a sad story, but a great one as well. Mike Vavak, a Long Beach guy from the bands Vavak and (briefly) The Killingtons, started the Olam Project.
In February 2009, Mike and his wife’s first child, Milo was born still. After going through support groups and talking to others who went through the same thing, they had a second child, Shaiah Olim Vavak. Shaiah’s middle name is Milo backwards. Shaiah also has a Hebrew name which is Shaiah Olam. The English translation of the Hebrew word “Olam” is “World.”
Mike decided to start a non-profit dedicated to giving back to charities by donating proceeds of t-shirts sold on their site. The first shirt is done and 20% of the proceeds are going to OC Walk to Remember, a charity dedicated to those that have lost a child. It’s a pretty cool shirt, and it helps a good cause, check it out.
