After doing some keg stands during a super bowl party I made it home and kept checking twitter for the release of the Sasquatch Festival Lineup. I guessed that Arcade Fire and Strokes would headline and I was wrong. Adding to the already announce Foo Fighters, it looks to be Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, and Wilco. All are alumni yet non have taken the top slot yet, that I can remember. Check out the full lineup HERE
I’m too lazy to type all the names below here so check out the image below to view the flier. We’ll update this post in a bit with the text
My take:
The good
Like a lot of festivals recently, they’re not dropping huge bucks on headliners like Prince and Pearl Jam and are instead stacking the middle of the lineup with solid bands. Coachella has always been good at this and I think it’s a necessity for Sasquatch because they can only fit about 22k people in the Gorge at a time (Lolla, Roo, and Coach are all over 60k). It might not look like it from the poster but in my mind Guided by Voices is headlining this fest and I couldn’t be happier. Other shows I’m excited for Gayngs, Flaming Lips performing The Soft Bulletin, Wolf Parade’s last show?, hanging with Reggie Watts, Yeasayer, Beach House, White Denim, Dan Mangan, Pepper Rabbit and Rebecca Gates. Oh.. and Twin Shadow too. Lots of good stuff.
The other
The headliners seem ‘soft’ to me. I guess it’s a Pacific Northwest thing that you have to put DCFC and Decemberists high on the bill but I really don’t see anyone on the top three lines blowing people away, outside of maybe Robyn. Will there be massive sing-and-dance alongs like the last couple years (MGMT, Vampire Weekend and Passion Pit all had the kiddies jumping up and down last year).
Not sure what our cream slinging situation is going to be like up there this year but we’ll be there for the 10th anniversary. GBV! GBV! GBV!
