Now that Spotify makes it easy to rock tracks and albums I hope to start doing more quick music posts of some of my favorites. Also… many of the albums I’ll be featuring will be easy to find at your local record store too, like Tommy James & The Shondells – Crimson and Clover
When I was around Thirteen I owned a cassette of Billboard Top Ten Hits from 1969. There were many gems on their including the single “Crimson & Clover” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion“. For over a decade I didn’t venture much beyond that but eventually heard the “Long” Version of “Crimson and Clover” and it reminded me I needed to pick up the full record. The album is packed with all kinds of sun-soaked, reverb-style late sixties rock that was still somehow popular and accessible to the masses. “I’m a Tangerine” is pure pop-psych gold and “Sugar on Sunday” could easily have been the third song to sneak onto the charts. Give it a spin, you won’t be disappointed.
