Pretty Girls Make Graves Pool Party

I was only supposed to be in town for one of the Pool Parties at McCarren Park Pool but ended up catching three. We weren’t able to get Bessie on the scene for the most recent one but didn’t stop me from having a blast. I loaded up the video cam and shot some concert footage for the first time. My trick was to move around with the camera a bit but still have it on a tripod so that when it was time to rock out, I could set it down and have some fun.

Earlier in the day I check out a couple tracks on Bon Savants myspace page. Dug what I heard and happened to notice their first two influences were The Wrens and Bedhead, which definitely gave ’em some bonus points. Made it down for the last few songs and got video of the last two. Not sure where that tape went and I need to get on the road tonight for Chicago so it’ll have to wait.

Somehow I missed all of Jason Lytle’s set but heard he did rock at least one Grandaddy song. Won’t go into that right now…….damn…..

Wandered around a bit and checked out the Ben and Jerry’s truck that was set up near where we were the previous two weeks. They were charging $3-$5 for their ice cream which didn’t seem like all that much of a rip off to me. A bunch of people came up to me to ask what the deal was with no free ice cream and I nicely told them, “JellyNYC is putting on nine free shows all summer with amazing bands. Any money they can get coming in to help pay for everything, they need”. We were able to donate a whopping $32 last week and I have a strange feeling they got a few more bucks this time around.

Pretty Girls Make Graves hit the stage and I ducked down and got prime placement to shoot. I can’t say I’ve listened to too much of their music before but they definitely know how to rock a crowd. All set long there was a guy behind me who kept yelling for “Blue Lights” and when they came out for the encore he got his wish. The video at top was from the song after that, the last one before everyone called it a night.

I instantly threw my stuff together then headed out front to give away some stickers. We’d been without stickers the first two weeks and Jakprints rushed us an order so that I’d have some to get out around NYC before I started heading back west. Weeee Dogeeees, life is great, I’m outta here!
