Holy Holy….

Last weekend at the Gorge in Washington, Sasquatch Festival tripled in size to three days of live music. I drove Bessie 1200 miles north and thanks to Julies Organic and Matterhorn Ice Cream, we had a couple thousand frozen treats to give away. In a perfect world, we’ll have the review up on Thursday. Look forward to some great shots of Beck (w/ puppets), NIN, Ben Harper, Flaming Lips, Jamie Liddel, Clap yo hands, Sufjan, Decemberists, and dozens more.

The Festivities kicked off on Friday with an all-out rock n’ roll lineup including NIN, Bauhaus, TV on the Radio, Trail of Dead, and Wolfmother. Everyone brought their A game and it was a great way to kick off the weekend.

Saturday got a bit crazy when a storm rolled as Neko Case hit the stage. Within minutes, marble sized hail started pounding the band and audience of over 20,000. For most people there wasn’t anywhere to take cover. Some of the crew made it back to the truck while others were stuck in a porta potty eating pizza with 8 new friends. I’ve lived outdoors for a year and half and I’ve never seen anything like it. Neko was all smiles until it got to the point were everyone’s equipment was covered in hail/rain and they had to pull the plug. Everyone who had shelter opened their doors. We took in a couple refugees backstage and the Flaming Lips took dozens into their tour bus. Wait til we get some pics and video up, NUTS. After an hour or so things got back on track and they flipped the Lips and Ben Harper so that the Lips would close the night out, near two in the morn.

Surprisingly everyone woke up early on Sunday because the sun was blazing and tents quickly became saunas. The two artists/bands I wanted to see most over the weekend were Band of Horses and Jamie Lidell. I missed Band of Horses because I was doing an interview with Wayne Coyne for CBC (Canada’s national public broadcaster). I found a place to take a shower backstage and while I was cleaning up I could hear Jamie soundcheck “Multiply”. About an hour later he was performing the same single to a rather large dance party that had amassed in front of the stage. The rest of the day I was planning on sticking around the truck but snuck off a bit for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, which led to an impromptu Tidal Wave dance from the ice cream crew. Beck closed out the fest with a great set that included a live puppet show that mimicked what the band was doing on stage…brilliant.

OK, I’ve slept four hours a night for the last 4 days. Today was a long one too due to the fact that Bessie broke down in South Seattle and I had to get her back up and running again before making it to my new temporary address at Knife and Jackie’s in Corvallis. Just so you know, it is possible to fuel a car while the engine is still running…… If you’d like to know when the review is launched, join our mailing list and we’ll send out and email.
