When Daniel Johnston walked on stage at the sold out Spaceland club this past thursday, the silent and eagerly awaiting crowd burst into shouts which were followed by loud applause. Daniel took a seat by his keyboard, opened up his binder, and started to play one of his unique songs. I was seeing him for the second time, first being at
Roskilde Festival in Denmark and again his songs and live performance blew my mind. The simple lyrics and rhymes about everyday life make it easy to relate to. The words that shine through Daniel’s music. The level of respect some of music’s greatest artist have for him is no surprise. About half-way through his set he replaced his keys with his guitar and out of the binder came even more great songs, played from the heart and soul of Daniel Johnston. DJ was fast past between songs. He’s start a new one almost before the first had finished. After a dozen or so songs DJ thanked the crowed, packed his guitar, and out the backdoor of the stage. When I walked out, I could still hear the crowd applaud Daniel’s performance, what a perfect night in Los Angeles.

ed. Daedelus and The Cairo Gang kicked things off, we’ll get a couple words from Matthias about them too. Ask me about my Daniel Johnston story sometime, it’s a good one.
