Earth Day at The lab in Costa Mesa

Last week, the one before Coachella, I went down to the lab in Costa Mesa on earthday to give away free green ice cream. We partnered up with Global Inheritance to help spread the word about finding new ways to help the environment. Global Inheritance has numerous off shoots and, if you were at Coachella, you probably noticed the artsy recycling bins or the porta potties that were created to showcase each decade of music over the last century. I think those are going to be auctioned off to raise money for music programs in the Southern Californian Public School System.

Thanks to Mikawaya I had a whole freezer full of Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream. I picked up some all-natural, non-dairy lime popsicles too to keep with the green theme. It had been a while since I had been to the LAB. When I was in high school, or just out of, I picked up a couple Japanese import Jump with Joey CD’s there. The record store is no more but there’s a cool coffee shop, a couple restaurants, a hat shop, shoe shop, Buffalo Exchange, and i think an Urban Outfitters. I didn’t have too much time to look around but I was able to get a really good parking spot out back that allowed me to scope out all the stuff that was going down. Eric brought out a bunch of the art clad recycling bins and there were arts and crafts folks and a stage for performers. A long cinder block wall was being adorned with mini mosaics from those that wanted to contribute.

I like giving away ice cream. Every project takes a lot of work to set up but once the moment actually comes when Bessie is parked and cream is being dispensed, it’s a peaceful kinda bliss. Usually I’m hopped up on caffiene, staring at a computer, and wiggin out. By the time the cream slinging comes and parked in one spot for hours, the pace of everything slows down and I get to relax for a while. I hung out til the sun started to set them slowly made my way home before heading up to Little Radio for the Brian Jonestown Massacre Party that night.

Ok, I’m gonna start working on the Coachella stuff now. I’ll do my best to keep y’all posted. Maybe we’ll have some best of pics up tomorrow. I have no ideas at this point. I do know that we will have lots and they will be awesome. Stay Tuned…
