Vapors Magazine Ice Cream Social

It’s no surprise that Bessy gets a cover shot before I do. She’s in high demand these days. Especially when she’s loaded with ice cream.

A while back I saw a bunch of Cobrasnake‘s pics in
Vapors while I was at Fingerprints. I had never heard of the magazine before but dug the mix of skate, urban art, and music. After a handful of emails and a bit of time, I was asked if the truck would be available for a photo shoot with Pharrell‘s Ice Cream Skate Team. The only problem was that I was going to be in the middle of the ocean on the Xingolati Cruise when the shoot was going down. I only had to make one call to Chris who gratefully stepped in. Part of the deal was that he would be able to drive around and give away ice cream with whatever ice cream was left over. Fair enough.

On Saturday night, Vapors threw their issue release party at Brooklyn Projects on Melrose. The forecast called for rain that night but luckily it had blown through earlier and made for a rather nice night. I was informed that it was going to be a madhouse. Over 600 people had replied the first day the guest list was open and they had to shut it off after that. The stock for the night was a good mix of Creamsicles, Ice Cream Sandwiches, Strawberry Shortcakes, and some other odd’s and end’s. The first to be gone were the UFO’s (It’s-It rip offs), but not before I treated my self to one.

Gregg stopped on by to hang and shoot some pics of the eclectic mix of LA folks. I guess free drinks and a dj set by Steve Aoki is all that’s needed these days. There was a skate ramp out back and I think a demo was supposed to go down but the rain ruled that obsolete. Everyone milled around inside and out and waited to see if Pharrell was gonna roll by. Apparently he did toward the end of the night but I wasn’t really keeping an eye out for him. Even though I should have so I could’ve talked him into kickin’ me down some new duds. All that Ice Cream apparel is perfect for me….wink wink.

At exactly 9:30 they started closing down shop and Gregg and I skipped out quick cuz we wanted to see if we could work our way into the Guitar Center Drum Off Contest with Bad Religion over at the Wiltern. Luck was with us that night and we’ll have some pics from that up very soon.
