Deerhoof at the Echo

Deerhoof is not like any ordinary band. For one the drummer plays on a kit that looks like it was fit for my 8 year old brother. However, it did not sound like any toy drum kit, to be honest it was rather loud. And right before they took the stage at the Echo, the singer came out and passed out a basket of chips and a party platter of veggies to the audience. I think we should embrace this as a new tradition, finger foods and a show. Soon after the food was done Deerhoof went on. They have a lot of heavy effects on their guitars and some people may take them as a metal band. But with the soft singing and melodies I think they are in a category all their own.

The show was great, half way through the set the band invited a kid in the crowd (dressed up as the milk man from one of their album covers) to come up on stage and dance during the song…Milk Man. A lot of people didnt really seem interested in what the band was doing; a lot of them were in the back dancing away with their eyes closed. But I think thats the whole mood of a Deerhoof show. You dont go to their show to see them, you go to hear them. And trust me it is not the same as their recording.
