Harlem Shakes at Cinespace

We did not see it on this magical evening, but we are definitely looking for it in the future. We need the Harlem Shakes. The fabsome fivesome hailing from New York, New York will not be the next big thing, they won’t, they don’t want to be. A quick 25 minute set with great transitions from one song to the next let me know that The Harlem Shakes have invaded L.A. with at least a clap if not two claps.

Last week was their inaugural trip west that landed them at most of the hottest clubs in town; Cinespace, Spaceland, and the Silverlake Lounge. We got there right in time to catch their set that consisted of all the songs of their new demo plus a new one. When their site is up and running, you can listen to most of the songs at www.harlemshakes.com. Harlem Shakes are a bunch of classically trained musicians mixing up pop music to guarantee that it stays fun. Who else is gonna use the word sicko in a chorus? I decided there are bands with promise/potential and then there’s young bands with promise and potential. The latter makes me much more curious.
