As I write this, I’m enjoying a chocolate chip cookie from a bag of Cookie Parade (now I’m enjoying one of those nondescript white cookies – are they supposed to be sugar cookies?). The sad news came last night: Mother’s Cookies, which started in Oakland, CA 92 years ago, has officially shut down operations and filed for bankruptcy.
The company has changed hands several times over the last few years, but has managed to make the same deliciously generic sweets throughout. But now it seems that they have finally given up and without notice laid off hundreds of employees.
Hopefully some other company will swoop in and buy the company, or at least the factories, and rehire these poor people.
Until then, R.I.P. Flaky Flix, you will be missed.
