After sighting John Legend at the same swanky Korean BBQ spot I had been eating (Shin BBQ, the restaurant partially owned by The Strokes front man, Julian Casablancas) I headed through the crowded city blocks of the Sunset Strip to The Avalon. Passing scenesters, couples, yuppies, and the baffling line for Motley Crue at the Palladium, I reached the venue to find Uh Huh Her on stage of one of the most coveted venues on a Hollywood weekend.
After a long tour of not knowing which day is which, Uh Huh Her greeted fans in their Los Angeles stomping grounds amidst the blur of their tour. While both took turns trading between keyboard and guitar, throughout the night Camila Grey was a sequined tigress on her instruments and Leisha Hailey lent coy, soft vocals. An electro-pop version of Silversun Pickups, Uh Huh Her was a fusion of aggression and sweetness, adequately blending the personas of the female duo.
The pairs new material received a warm reception while the crowd earnestly clapped along to favorites like “Dance With Me” and “Common Reaction”. When the lights went up mid-show to reveal the audience, both Grey and Hailey were visibly flattered by the enthusiastic numbers that had come to praise them.
When the show was over, it had passed too quickly. The Avalon had the ladies take the stage before 9:30 and they were off by 10:30. I guess thats the ushering whirlwind of showbiz.
