With Coachella nestled on the horizon, the excitement for my favorite weekend of the year is building by the day. The installment of Coachella Fridays will feature a selection of acts I am anticipating above the rest at the Indio festival, one of which being Santigold. Just this month the artist was forced to change her childhood moniker for the stage, from Santogold to Santigold, because of legal threats from an infomercial figure Santo Gold.
While her track L.E.S. Artists was Rolling Stones Top #2 Single for 2008, (after Beyonces Single Ladies), I find that the most celebrated singles from the Santogold album arent even my favorites. This is probably why, across the board from NME to Pitchfork, the self-titled LP made a memorable impression in 2008.
But back to the lecture at hand, I had a hard time choosing between three tracks for today. Finally, I selected Starstruck. The languorous percussion will be the pulse that gets you through today while the attitude that hits with each note and barks in the background will have you feeling thug life this Friday.
