Well, we don’t really need any additional reasons to get down to Austin for this year’s SXSW Music Festival, but here are a few more anyway:
After playing over 150 shows last year, the Avett Brothers will travel to Austin to play their first ever SXSW. Their debut will be at NPR‘s official SXSW showcase, Wednesday night at Stubb’s Bar-B-Que. They’ll be playing music from their new album, produced by Rick Rubin, and set to be released this summer.
And if this isn’t enough, The Decemberists will also be there to premiere their new album, The Hazards Of Love, which they will be playing live in its entirety!!! I for one cannot miss this show.
The Heartless Bastards will be at the NPR showcase too, performing songs from The Mountain.
Can’t make it to Austin this year? Fear not, the entire show will be streamed live, archived, and podcast at www.NPR.org/sxsw.
After SXSW, the Avett Brothers seem to have another full year of touring lined up. They’ll be coming to LA on May 9th, playing The Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater, one of my favorite LA venues. And then, later that month on May 24th, they’ll be hitting the Gorge in Washington for the Sasquatch Festival (also one of my favorite festivals). And, by the way, the Sasquatch line up this year looks amazing! All four original members of Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Erykah Badu, Animal collective, Grizzly Bear, TV On The Radio, Ben Harper, Of Montreal, The Airborne Toxic Event, St. Vincent, John Vanderslice, Fleet Foxes, Explosions In The Sky, and comedy from Zach Galifianakis and Tim & Eric, and so much more…it’s going to be memorable.
