To commemorate May Day, Festival Express Fridays offers this breezy track that is vintage in soul and sound. While the introductory guitar is reminiscent of rock, the signature tambourine and vocal delivery jumps in making this song, (and entire album, The Way I See It), an irresistible throwback to Motown soul whilst maintaining a modern edge.
The song’s doo-wop format causes the title, “Keep Marchin”, to evoke a historically relevant attitude toward persistence. However, Saadiq’s message and tone is light and optimistic to keep your toes tapping throughout the weekend.
While Raphael Saadiq is considered a staple in R&B production over the past two decades, we have not heard any solo material from Saadiq in six years. Without question, the release of his 2008 album has put him under the spotlight once again and onto indie festival lineups like Outside Lands and Bonnaroo for this year. Welcome back, Mr. Saadiq.
